The DPIIT-IPR Chair is established at Osmania University under the SPRIHA scheme of Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.

The IPR Chair aims to promote IPR Culture and contribute to IPR research and knowledge. The DPIIT-IPR Chair at Osmania University looks forward to collaborate with academics, researchers and industry to promote effective utilization of IPRs.

About the Opportunity

The DPIIT-IPR Chair at Osmania University, is organizing a Know Your IP series of Weekly Lectures/ Interactions/ Interviews with the primary objective of dissemination of knowledge on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs). It will offer insights and inputs on various forms of IPRs relevant to all the stakeholders, by demystifying the fundamentals of IP and highlighting the recent developments in the Intellectual Property (IP) domain.

The Know Your IP Week-27 of the Online Lecture Series is on the topic Protection of Industrial Designs – with reference to India & UK to be presented by Prof. (Dr.) T. Ramakrishna, Professor of Law & Chair Professor-IPR, National Law School of India University, Bangalore.

About the Resource Person

Professor of Law, Chair Professor (IPR) B.Sc. (1974), LL.B. (1977), LL.M. (International Law), (1979) all from Mysore University, M.A. (Political Science and Public Administration) (1984) Karnataka University, Ph.D. (Intellectual Proper ty Rights)(2000), Mysore University.

He was a Lecturer (1979-1988), Reader (1988-1994), and Professor (1995-2002) all at Vidyavardhaka Law College, Mysore and its Principal (1992-2002).

His areas of specialization include Intellectual Property Rights Law, International Law, Criminal Law and Law of Evidence, Conception of Justice and Global Legal order. He was Visiting Faculty at the Department of Post-graduate Studies & Research in Law, Mysore University, and Karnataka Police Academy (1990-2002).

He Joined the NLSIU as Professor (2002). Presently he holds the Intellectual Property Rights Chair [IPR Chair] of the Ministry of Human Resources and Development at the NLSIU, is the Coordinator of the Centre of Intellectual Property Rights Research and Advocacy [CIPRA] at the NLSIU, and Head for the Institute of Excellence on Intellectual Property Rights and Standards.

He is member of different Expert committees constituted by Indian Intellectual Property Office, National Biodiversity Authority, Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority, Copyright Office and member of Institutional Ethics Committees.

He was the Chairman of Post-Graduate Council, Special invitee of the Executive Council, and member of the General Council of the NLSIU. He visited University of Sussex, UK (September-October 2004) under the DFID Project, the WTO and WIPO in Geneva, Switzerland (June-July 2005) and participated in the Colloquium on IPR.
